Upper Minsk city — Freedom Square
The Freedom Square was formerly called Napoleon Square, and this is the “heart” of Minsk. The local authorities and rich families have been lived there in 16th century. Among the interesting districts of the Upper City for tourists, in addition to Freedom Square, there are Muzyikalnyiy lane, Hertsena Str., Revoliutsiynia Str., Kyryla and Mefodiia Str., Internatsionalna Str., Torhova Str. and part of Komsomolska and Enhelsa Str.
The City Hall deserves special attention, which was built several centuries ago. Every hour the symbol of city antiquity pleases passers-by with a patriotic melody. It is difficult to miss another interesting sculpture in front of the City Hall — “Carriage of governor”.

The Independence square and avenue
The Independence square is considered the most beautiful in Belarus. This square is 1.5 times larger than the Red square in Moscow. The Independence Avenue, which starts from square, is one of the most long city main roads in Europe. The length is 15 km.
You should go along Independence Square if you want to see a typical architecture for Belarusian capital. Despite the fact the square is surrounded by huge buildings which were built in soviet style, and transport highways, this is a cozy place for relax.

Church of Saints Simon and Helena
Church of Saints Simon and Helena is located on Independence square. It is hard not to notice the temple of red brick, which was built in the early 20th century. The building was built in Neo-Romantic style with elements of Neo-Gothic style and Modern style by the Tomash Paizderskyi project. Edvard Voinylovych was the initiator of the construction. The aristocrat built a Roman Catholic church in honor of the early death of his children.
The red church was miraculously preserved, although there was a threat of its destruction during the times of Soviet power and military periods.

“ Island of Tears”
“Island of Tears” or Island of Courage and Sorrow is located on the bend of the Svisloch river, near the Trinity Hill. The memorial complex was built in honor of the soldiers-internationalists, who took part in the war (1979-1989) with Afghanistan.
“Island of Tears” in Minsk — is an artificial island. It starts with a flip bridge, the main element of Minsk complex is the chapel. On the walls of chapel are written the names of all Belarusian, who died in Afghanistan (about 771 people).
The memorial rises above the surrounding landscape by three meters. The island`s space is uneven — many stones symbolize Afghanistan mountains, which became the place of eternal rest for many Belarusian soldiers.

Minsk-Arena
The Minsk-Arena Complex is built on the high-tech style, it is one of the most modern buildings in Europe. It was opened in 2010. It includes four objects: a multifunctional sports arena (15,000 seats), a skating stadium, a velodrome and an open multi-level parking. The complex stands out against on background of the earlier constructed sports arenas in Belarus.
In addition to sports competitions, the complex also hosts concerts. Not far from the complex there are shopping mall, arena of Sports Glory. In front of entrance to the Minsk-Arena is stele “Triumph”, it symbolizes Olympic torch. Also, there are marble medallions with names of Belarusian sportsmans, who won prizes at the Olympic Games in different years.
