How to fall in love with Moscow in a weekend: a few tips for travelers

Moscow is great city with great opportunities for tourists. There are soviet architecture, churches and wide streets that seems strange for foreigners, but for us Moscow is a place we read about in childhood and at school, and then as an adult, in the classical novels. We are going to tell you how to fall in love with Moscow in a weekend. Definitely, there are reasons to go there. It has no less parties than in Kiev and in the intervals between them you can go to museums or theaters. This trip is great for a weekend and even though the city is really huge, you can try to see the most interesting things. We have prepared for you a few tips that will help to understand and love this city.

1. First of all, after arrival to Moscow, try not to use the services of taxi drivers, who are waiting near the sidewalk – they often do not know the city and this is too expensive. Locals recommend to go on the subway — it will save money and Moscow subway is pretty good.

2. Red Square is the most important tourist attraction and center of Moscow. There are crowds of tourists and people who want to earn some money with their help. Try not to spend too much time there, especially on weekends. If you want to visit the Kremlin you can do this every day except Thursday. Entrance to the mausoleum of Lenin is free, if you really want to look at the dead leader. A great alternative to Red Square is Kitay Gorod with its unique pre-revolutionary architecture and park near Moscow State University.

3. Go to the Arbat – the most famous street of the city, which is often compared with our Andreevsky descent. There you can have a good time, walk, go to a cafe and take a look at the street artists and musicians. There are lots of interesting museums-houses. For example, Pushkin museum, Lermontov museum, Tsvetaeva museum.

4. Pay attention to the parks, there are a lot of them in the Moscow, and they are well maintained. The most famous – Gorky Park. After walking through it you can go the Neskuchny garden and then to the Vorobyovy Hills where you will see a panoramic view of the city.

5. Look at the Moscow City from far. Modern skyscrapers in Moscow are located in one place, and it looks impressive. Find the point with a good view and take some photos. Then tell friends that you’ve been in New York.

6. Take a walk along the main route of Moscow – descent from Tverskaya to Pushkinskaya and then to Okhotny Ryad. The last point – a large underground shopping mall. On the way to it you will see the Central Telegraph, House of the mayor and the monument to Yuri Dolgoruky.

7. Take a walk to VDNKh. In Moscow, the exhibition is very similar to her sister in Kiev, but there is more entertainment for adults and children. The best solution – rent a bike or rollers and ride over a territory.

8. Do not forget about museums. Many tourists are going to Moscow just for cultural heritage. Museums are known far beyond the city and the country. First of all, the Tretyakov Gallery, which presents mainly works by Russian artists of all time. Pushkin Museum is famous for its long lines in the weekends, but you can still try to go there. Sometimes there are exhibitions, and the museum has a rich collection of Impressionist works. There are also the Historical Museum, which has a collection of antique and ancient cultural attributes.

9. Spend some money at a flea market. People are saying that you can find everything there. In addition to the pile of authentic antiques on the shelves, it looks like a real Russian Fair, with little houses, or as a backdrop for the film.

10. Join the contemporary art. The tradition of rebuilding old factories into art objects came to our country from Europe and for fans of the Kiev “Platform” there are also good news in Moscow. On the old winery you can find regular exhibitions, lectures, philosophical club and other popular and useful activities. There is also a museum “Garage”, which is very similar to our “Arsenal”.
