Did you come to Kiev to get new impressions? Are you visiting the Ukrainian capital for the first time? Believe it, there is a lot to see! Put your comfortable shoes and clothes on, leave your Kiev apartments rented on a daily basis – Kiev is waiting for you! And besides stunning landscapes, monuments and other showplaces, the city can please both the gourmet goodies, and those who prefer to have it tasty, satisfying and affordable.
“Kiev perepіchka” – probably the most famous Kiev street food. This is the well known Ukrainian hotdog, that became a hallmark of the city long time ago.
Kiev inhabitants and tourists of all ages love it for its unchanging compounding, which has been rejoicing them for more than 30 years.

Now it sounds like a brand, but the “Kiev Perepichka” appeared over 30 years ago, in 1981, with the opening of a small kiosk in the center of Kiev, on the Bohdan Khmelnytsky street, a few steps from Kreschatik and close to the underground station Theatralnaya.
It is quite an uncommon sausage in yeast dough, deep fried, and reminds food in school and student canteens. Cute saleswomen in blue aprons even give chopped leaves of unbleached paper instead of napkins. No one really can explain what is the reason for success of this very simple and not very useful for the organism food.
Maybe it is nostalgia and some desire to touch the history, so to speak to try the taste of the Soviet era, standing on the main street of the capital and considering the remarkable architecture of Kreschatik in the style of Stalin’s empire? Or desire to stand in a long queue, as in TSUM during the Soviet times?
Even though the price of Perepichka in the course of these 30 years has increased from 22 kopecks to 5 hryvnia (!), it remains popular to this day and is included in the list of the most iconic places to visit in Kiev, along with St. Andrew’s descent, and even takes the 43th place in the Tripadvisor rating, ahead of many of the capital’s cafes and restaurants, let alone fast-food outlets.
Kiosks are open from 9 to 21. In the menu, except for Perepichka, there are juices, tea, coffee, soft drinks and mineral water at very reasonable prices.
Thus, we recommend you to try it anyway.
