Burnt by the Sun. Is it getting hotter in Kyiv?

Every year, when the snow has thawed and the first fragile flowers have blossomed, pages of tabloid press, the main pages of internet media, news channels begin to dapple by phrases like “THE SUMMER OF 20.. WILL BE EARTH’S HOTTEST EVER”. And what about us? We will try to figure out – is it true that this summer will be the hottest summer ever?

Every year, meteorologists from around the world come out with disappointing forecasts. Reporters make sensations. Fortune-tellers predict the end of the world. Old ladies groan. Caring mothers explore shopping malls for variegated panamas, bandanas and baseball caps. Refrigerators cool liters of lemonade, freezers turn water into ice cubes.

So we decided to use our imaginary time machine, go back to 2006 and find out if Kiev summer becomes hotter from year to year.

We don’t have any satellites, flasks, an magnifying glass or even a starched white coat as laboratory workers have. But we have access to the internet and curiosity.
So, imagine that outside is Kyiv summer –

the 30th of June

But not 2016.

Firstly we need to define what units we will use: the air temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure.
The first index more or less clear, for the next two require little explanation.

Relative humidity

– is the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapor to the equilibrium vapor pressure of water at a given temperature. The optimal rate for normal human existence – 45%.

With regard to the atmospheric pressure

The planet “shrouded” by air mass, which we call the atmosphere. All objects on the surface of the Earth “pushes” by the air column – for example, for every centimeter of your body pressed by 1,033 kg of air mass. What about the optimal rate for normal human existence – in the opinion of medicians rate is about 750-760 mm Hg.

Back in 2006-th. June 30, at 15:00.
Temperature was 24˚C, barometric pressure – 747 mmHg — just a little, but below the standard. Humidity – 49%

A year later, at the same time in the same place it was somewhat cooler – air temperature was about 19˚C.

In 2008 there was a bit warmer – 23˚C

But in 2009, there became very hot: the temperature was 28 degrees Celsius above zero.

Do you remember one of the June days of 2010? It was too hot — 29˚C.

2011 with 2012 – 24˚C. 2013 – total per degree below – 23°C.
By the way, to measure atmospheric pressure in millimeters of mercury column is accepted only at our part of the world. In the United States the unit of calculation is Pascal. In 2014 the atmospheric pressure was 748 mm Hg, and the air temperature – 25 ° C.

Low humidity can dry out and inflame the mucous membrane. On 30 June 2015 the humidity was incredibly low — 30%.

And here is the most recent data – June 30th 2016: air temperature – 29 degrees Celsius above zero, the atmospheric pressure – 746 mmHg. By the way, the most sensitive to the low atmospheric pressure is the people with ICP.

So, what can we say about the change of the climate? Indeed, in the last few years there has been a deviation of a few degrees above standard temperature. And the average temperature around the world over the past year increased by 0.7˚C. But instead of talking about the greenhouse effect, global warming, meteosensitivity….We want to wish you a great summer – so warm and sunny, with the gentle waves of Odessa and delicious mountain air of Carpathians.
