Ukrainian Safari in the Crimea

Another unique attraction has been added to the Crimea’s sightseeing treasury. A huge entertainment park, Taygan,  opened here to receive the status of a nature reserve.  32 hectares of heath on the peninsula are occupied by the safari park where the over fifty lions will from now on live in the conditions close to natural.

The unparalleled safari complex was developed for about six years at the place of a former military base. It now has no analogues either in Ukraine or in Europe. The lion park is truly worth admiration as the animals for the exposition have been collected from Zoo’s and circuses of Ukraine, Russia and Europe. And the rare white lions were brought here from South Africa.

Beside lions the park is inhabited by over 1,5 thousand animals and birds. There is a pair of giraffes, antelopes and camels, zebras, monkeys, bears and many others in the Zoo. The “House of Birds” can boast multiple species of birds (ostriches, parrots, eagles to name a few), bright peacocks stroll along the paths freely.

To watch the predators who feel totally at home in the reserve, the visitors are suggested to walk on the bridge constructions raised 4 meters above the ground. Thus the park’s guests witness the unique moments from the wild cats’ life without distracting them from their usual pastime.

This spring the nursery celebrated their first young ones. The birth of healthy lion cubs signifies that perfect living conditions have been created for the wild cats. By the way an adult lion must get 7 to 10 kilos meat a day for a healthy and carefree living. However there is so much more an animal needs to be happy…

To take a full overview of the complex one can go on foot or take a “zoo-train” which will take its passengers about the park. The train will stop in the Zoo where the hooved and the apes live, in the mini-Zoo where children can play with little animals outside cages, and in the noisy birds’ house.

According to Oleg Zubkov, the park’s director (who is by the way also the owner of the Yalta Zoo “Skazka”), the possibility of direct contact with wild animals will become Taygan’s peculiar feature. It’s only here that one can freely play with the future kings of beasts or even “loan” a lion cub!

Apart from the Zoo’s and Safari the complex has a couple of cafes and a small hotel to stop for a weekend. However, if you travel around the Crimea or if you stay in one of the towns of the south coast, you can easily get to Belogorsk where the reserve is located by car or public transport.

In order not to cross checkpoints on the territory, which is not currently controlled by Ukraine, we recommend that you rent an apartment in the nearby cities: OdessaKherson or Nikolaev.

Travel and discover new interesting and exciting places! And dobovo.com will take care of your comfort in any part of Ukraine.
